The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT), created by a 1966 Act of Congress, is the Federal Department in charge of transport issues. It is headed by the Secretary of State for Transportation. Its role is to serve the United States by guaranteeing a safe, efficient, accessible and practical transport system in the interests of all users in accordance with their present and future lifestyle. The USDOT’s priorities are to ensure traveller safety, facilitate their mobility and make transport a lever for the country’s economic growth.
